Clinician

Aviva Wheeler, MSEd, is a therapeutic educator and coach who has worked with children, adolescents, adults, and families for 25 years. Aviva earned her Master of Science in Early Childhood Special Education from Bank Street College of Education and began her career teaching young children with special needs.  After a short time, she came to realize that the key to her students’ success often required intervention both inside and outside of the classroom. In her role as a Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT), Aviva coordinated and created learning plans that addressed the academic, emotional and behavioral needs of her students and promoted growth and success not only at school, but also at home and in the community. Her work partnering closely with her students’ families became the foundation for her transition into her therapeutic coaching practice. Aviva now works with clients of all ages and she combines her keen eye for identifying problematic patterns and dynamics with her skillful ability to teach individuals and families the strategies they need to manage distressing emotions, change problematic behaviors and organize and structure their environment to thrive in all areas of their life. Aviva offers her coaching services in a variety of settings (home, school, community) and tailors her approach to meet the client’s specific needs. Some of the various roles she plays in her work as a therapeutic coach, include: parent trainer, behavioral coach, learning consultant, family organizer, executive skills coach, or therapeutic companion.
